Hydraulic manifolds are designed to optimize the space between the required components of a hydraulic system while minimizing leak points and as a result reduce the parasitic pressure drop of their inter-connection. The final shape of the manifold is determined by this inter-connection circuit as well as determining the number and location of all external ports.
The example on the right has a further constraint of meeting strict aerospace requirements. The unit is mounted in an MD87 jet that has been converted to dropping fire retardant. The manifold controls the opening of the valves that release the retardant at varying rates. Combined with a Dual Axis Motion Controller the valve position is held to .001".
The examples below provide a cross-section of the solutions provided through custom designed hydraulic manifolds. A 'click' of the mouse expands each picture and list the relative parameters of the manifold.
