Sawyer Systems is uniquely qualified to supply specialty power units with our in-house hydraulic, mechanical and electrical engineering capability.  Specialty units have restrictive requirements such as size, weight, noise standards or harsh environments that demand special attention from the design staff. 

Our engineers and system designers have met the challenges to produce specialty power units exceeding the clients requirements. The example shown to the right is a power unit and control system for retro-fitting a vacuum control system on a cutter head dredge. It has a size restriction, salt air exposure requirement, PLC and Touch Screen controls.

This unit operates a series of ramps for a sea going ferry. It is an occasional use, salt air exposure, and extreme low noise requirement. The system has wireless control, wired pendants and fixed operators stations. All systems would be operated with salt air spray.
These units were manufactured for the Boeing Co, for use in testing aircraft parts on the tarmac. The units are used separately and can be used in groups. The variable volume system has a supercharged inlet to allow rapid cycling.
This unit operates a flight simulator. It has five (5) x 75 HP pump/motor combinations and is installed adjacent to an office complex. The noise requirement was 85 db @ 5 ft. at full horsepower. The unit was fully noise insulated including the air flow from the air/oil cooling fan.
This unit is a self-contained linear operator for a water control valve operating a fish ladder in Nevada. It replaced an electric linear operator that was not adequate. The weight and friction loads of the water valve exceeded the electric operator’s capacity. The hydraulic solution was required to fit the existing mounting flanges as they were imbedded in concrete.
This is a two (2) x 40 HP fixed displacement system that operates a pipe skate for a land based drilling rig in Canada. This was the prototype for a new family of equipment where the power unit was built into the frame of the machine. The primary challenge was the physical size, but equally challenging was making the hydraulic system easy to maintain.
