The Liberty Rig is the largest land based drilling rig in the world. It was fabricated in Vancouver, Washington by Thompson Metal Fabricators and shipped by barge to the oils fields in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. The rig is design for extended reach drilling (ERD) with goals of reaching reservoirs over eight (8) miles out in the Beaufort Sea.
Our field installation crews started on-site with the installation of the self-contained moving system provided by Columbia Industries. The entire rig was capable of moving down a well row without disconnecting lines or laying down the mast.
We installed all hydraulic piping for the completely enclosed and heated pipe shed equipped for building and storing Range 2 triples and Range 3 doubles. National Oilwell provided the twin hydraulic gantry cranes and triples pipe shuttle to handle the pipe up to the 42 foot drill floor. We provided the inter-connecting piping system for all drill floor equipment as well as the Blow Out Preventer System.
The majority of the system was pre-engineered in AutoCAD Inventor and submitted for approval. Portions of the system were shop manufactured and shipped to the site for installation. The picture at the right as well as the detail pictures below shows examples of the installation.
