Doyon Rig 25 Project

Doyon Rig 25 is an Arctic Drilling Rig working in the North Slope oil fields in Alaska. It is a six (6) module self-contained rig capable of drilling in the 60º below zero temperatures typical of the region. Construction of the rig started at the Thompson Metal Fab facility in Vancouver, Washington in 2008. It was placed in service in March of 2010.

Sawyer Systems was contracted to provide the hydraulically operated equipment for the rig and install all the inter-connecting piping systems. The following major equipment was supplied:

  1. Mast Raising and Drill Floor Skidding System
  2. 325 HP Central Hydraulic Unit for Substructure
  3. 225 HP Central Hydraulic Unit for Pipe Barn
  4. Four (4) 100 HP Hydraulic Units for Lift & Roll Systems
  5. Wireless Control System for the Lift & Roll System
  6. Pallet Lift and Tote Elevator Hydraulic Power Units
  7. Hydraulic Pin Pullers

Mechanized System for Storing Drill Pipe

Lift & Roll Hydraulic Unit. 100 HP fixed displacement system for Arctic service. Pins to module and interchangeable with three other identical units.
Mechanized Storage System. This system stores the drill pipe in 64 foot “double” mode. The drill pipe stores on the rig during moves without rig hands ever touching the tubulars.
Hydraulic Pin Pullers for locking the Load Divider Jeep to the Pipe Barn for transport. Pin Pullers are also used secure the modules together and to pin the mast when raised.
The Lift & Roll System for all six modules was supplied by LoadMaster Rigs, Houston Texas. We supplied the wireless control system and “Power Steering” function to simplify alignment of the pods.
