Plumbing To the Swing Winches

Sawyer Systems provided the non-welded piping systems system for this Cutter Head Dredge. The system was pre-engineered and over 75% shop fabricated and shipped to the shipyard.

The field installation included mounting and plumbing between manifold blocks welded into the bulkhead walls and deck steel. The picture on the right is an example of the plumbing feeding through the deck steel to the swing winches mounted above. Once the system was installed, each pipe run was flushed to a specification, pressure tested and certified ready for operation. Our crews continued on-site through commissioning of the equipment to guarantee a successful system.

Using steel manifolds welded into the bulkheads ensure the hull integrity and supplies fixed points to attach the piping system.
Custom manifolds were designed to provide the load holding and brake release functions. The manifold also allowed the hose connections to be strategically placed to make clean connections to the manifolds welded into the deck steel.
Custom Pipe spools were designed to make the multiple high pressure connections from the Cutter Head motor to the piping in the Ladder.
The directional valves for the Spud System were mounted into a stainless steel enclosure to increase their reliability in the salt air environment of the dredge.
